Diggin' in the dirt

I've talked for years about having a vegetable garden and beautiful flower gardens, but never actually did anything about it. Last year, Jeremie and Uncle Hank knocked down the old greenhouse that was out back and we were going to put a garden in then. In March we went to Mary and Jared's in Lake Chelan and talked about my dream of putting in raised beds and planting veggies. They had taken out two raised beds that were at their house when they bought it because they weren't big enough, so we ended up taking them home with us.
But my brother-in-law, Ted, said that we shouldn't use those beds because half of the sides of wood were rotten and they would fall apart after a few years (which we were fine with since we don't have a whole lot of money to buy new things with). But Ted and Jeremie traded some work with each other and I got new raised beds (but he at least used the same brackets that were on the old ones). They are 4 feet by 10 feet.
When Jeremie was off having fun on his Guys Weekend, I was working hard at home, leveling the ground where the garden was going to be, putting down typar and plastic to keep the weeds out, and shoveling two yards of gravel (we ended up putting four yards of gravel in, but I did two yards by myself).
Here are some before and after photos.

This is going to be amazing! Just think of all the tasty food you're going to be growing (and eating and canning and whatnot)!!

Good for you!

Wow! Beautiful job. I have vegetable garden envy. Kevin and I will have one whiskey barrel filled with lettuce and one potato plant. What are you going to plant? Can't wait to see it (and you guys) in person.
